I have my baby back!

I have missed my computer SO MUCH.

I've been using A's eeePC since my laptop went down and I can't tell you how much I've appreciated it, but it's not the same.

Although, I do wish that by upgrading to Karmic Koala I hadn't killed my USB connectivity. Le sigh, Ubuntu. Fix release, plz.

new favorite soup

Spinach and Pea Soup

1/2 T olive oil
1/2 T butter
2 medium leeks, sliced
1 medium onion, diced
3 medium carrots, sliced
2 stalk celery, sliced
10 sprigs fresh parsley, chopped
1/4 t dried marjoram
1 t salt
4 C vegetable broth
1 1/2 C water, divided
1 C frozen or fresh peas
1 bunch spinach, washed & stemmed
1 t black pepper
1/2 t white pepper
2 1/2 t rice vinegar

Sautee the vegetables, parsley, marjoram, and salt in the oils plus 1/2 C water for 5 minutes. Add the vegetable broth and remaining water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer until vegetables are tender.

Stir in peas & spinach and cook until bright green & wilted. Remove from heat and run batches through blender or food processor (or stick blender, I suppose). Return to pan.

Add pepper & vinegar and serve.

I like things tangy and peppery, so you can adjust those two things down to start and add more as you like it.

So I was just watching E! (DON'T JUDGE ME) and the commercial for the new Girls Next Door came on. The music?

Hey Monday's Homecoming.

I don't know why I found it so hilarious, but I did.

MOTHERFUCKING SHITBALLS!

At least once a year, an Ubuntu update will completely fuck up my wireless authentication.

Hopefully this latest fuckup will get cleared up quicker than the last, which took over 9 months.

Fuckstick.

Fic Graveyard Post #16 CSI:M/Sports Night

  • Sep. 21st, 2009 at 10:59 AM

OK, so CSI: Miami.

As I mentioned before Tim Speedle is one of my fandom kryptonites.

I will wedge him into any story possible if just to fix the character assassination wrought by his ignominious end.

One of things I love most about him is the BLATANTLY GAY BACKSTORY whomever was in control of the CBS website in the early 2000's came up with. Before you accuse me of being a deluded slasher, just read this (it's paraphrased since CBS took down his old character bio and I can't find it while I'm at work, but it's accurate):

Tim grew up in upstate NY where father was a restaurant chef and his mother was a social worker. He had a brother who was significantly younger and a best friend (I named him David). Tim and his best friend had plans after they graduated high school to go to college together. Their plans were derailed, however, when David was seriously injured during their senior ski trip. In addition to severe internal injuries, he became parapelegic. So when Tim went off to college, he spent all of his time researching paralysis, trying to come up with a rememdy for David. Tragically, after about two years (all of them in the hospital, it sounded like), David died from his injuries.

At this point, Tim jumps on his motorcycle and disappears for a year and no one knows where he is until he shows up on David's uncle's doorstep in Miami. David's uncle was the county coroner and it's through him that Tim meets Megan and gets interested in forensic science. He finishes school and starts working for the Miami crime lab...

Honestly, that shit is GAY. I'm just saying.

Except for the SPN xover I posted earlier, all of the stories -- posted and unfinished -- I have for him are sort of interrelated.

It starts with this snippet below which details the fun, sexytimes Speed and David have on their senior trip immediately before the tragic accident:

Fic Graveyard Post #15 Hawaii Danny/Chris

  • Sep. 15th, 2009 at 10:51 AM

So, a few years back, the new TV season was getting ready to start and I was super excited that Michael Biehn was going to be on my TV in a new cop drama called Hawaii. I thought for sure it'd be successful because it was up against some other new show about a plane crash or something?

Yeah, I picked the loser on that one. Hawaii lasted about 8 episodes before it was smothered by the Lost monster.

Eight episodes was all I needed, though to totally fall in love with the characters of Danny (Ivan Sergei) and Chris (Eric Balfour). I wrote two stories for the fandom back in 04/05 -- Mele Kelikimaka and Panic Movement -- but had four others plotted out. One is just a silly little thing, the second is part of a group of stories I was working on about tattoos and the last two the second and third parts of the story started in Panic Movement.

Cleaning, go!

  • Sep. 12th, 2009 at 4:40 PM

Just spent three hours cleaning 2.5 rooms of my house (living room, bathroom, & short hallway).

And when I say 'cleaning' I mean moving furniture away from the walls and mopping down the hardwood and cleaning out under the bathroom sink.

I also cleaned out under the kitchen sink which was a mess of plastic bags, cleaning products, and fucking water. I couldnt' feel any leaks, so it might have just been condensation from the humid summer, but I'll be keeping my eye on that.

Still left to do: kitchen, bedroom, office.

The office is pretty straightforward - dusting and swiffering and mopping. My bedroom curtains still need to be hung, but I don't have any rods, so that might mean a trip to IKEA. I also need to change my bedding and go on a spider hunt.

It's that time of year.

But I think I'll leave those for tomorrow so my housemate/brother can tackle the kitchen when he gets back from up north. The floor is all sticky from the stupid girls he hangs out with spilling vodka on it at least three times a week.

So one of my very favorite characters ever is Tim Speedle from the first couple seasons of CSI:Miami. I loved his attitude and his backstory and his hot, hotass self. I thought it was character assassination of the highest degree when they killed him off the way they did, so I have a few different ways that I've fixed that over the years.

This first one doesn't ignore his death and is an xover with Supernatural that ends up Speed(sort of)/Dean.

I have a problem, okay? )

*sigh*

When did I get old enough to hurt myself sewing?

Well, to be fair, it was bending over the too-short table and cutting out the pattern that did the number on my back.

Sore back notwithstanding, my TOS costume is mostly done! I just need to hem it, put the zipper in & take it in around the upper back, hem the sleeves, and fiddle with the neckline.

That doesn't sound like mostly done, does it? But it totally is!

Fic Graveyard Post #13 Hocus Pocus

  • Aug. 29th, 2009 at 12:35 PM

So, [info]exitsign loves the movie Hocus Pocus a whole lot and is fascinated by poor cat-i-fied Thackery Binx and his best friend Elijah. We spent a good lot of time talking about how they would sneak around touching each other in naughty places then feeling horrible, Puritan guilt about all of it.

Then Binx's sister is kidnapped by the witches and he's turned into a cat and Elijah is left all by himself to live in a cabin in the woods until he dies alone and miserable. Elijah spends the next few hundred years in heaven watching the world change and Binx wander around as a kitty cat, just waiting for the witches to be defeated so they can have a heavenly reunion.

I feel like there's more hidden in LJ comments, but since I think we did this in 2005-6, I can't quite recall. If I find it, I'll update this post with the additional info.

This was mostly [info]exitsign's baby, but she said it was okay to post it with the rest of the stuff.

Fic Graveyard Post #12 Stargate:Atlantis

  • Aug. 28th, 2009 at 9:26 AM

Back in the misty watercolor days of S1 Atlantis, when everything was bright with possibilities and not yet tarnished by the machinations of SyWTFy, [info]exitsign had a big old crush on Sgt. Bates and wanted him to find happiness so he could stop being such a tightass.

(So we hooked him up with Dr. Simpson)

Fic Graveyard Post #9 Stargate:Atlantis

  • Aug. 27th, 2009 at 10:41 AM

About a thousand years ago (in fandom years), I wrote an SGA flashfic for the 38 minutes challenge. It was Ancient device genderfuckery called The Rose in the Worm and I never quite finished the sequel.

Fic Graveyard Post #8 Drake & Josh

  • Aug. 24th, 2009 at 11:00 PM

So, a million years ago, [info]exitsign and I wrote this filthy story about Drake & Josh & Yooka, the crazy exchange student. It was called Like a Goat and Carriage and was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to that universe.

(Follow fake cut to 13K words of crazy)

So I wrote Shadows Keep On Changing which is a McGee/Dean story and [info]exitsign wrote the immediate sequel i'm just giving you a warning.

I had originally planned to write another story wherein Tim & Tony end up getting together over the haunting of Tim's sister's place...

(follow the fake cut to DW since it's too big for LJ)
